We flew from Madera Island and landed back in Lisbon where we picked up a Peugeot SUV that will be our transport machine for the next couple of weeks around in the Algarve of southern Portugal.
We rented an apartment in Albufeira which is a town on the south coast of Portugal. During the summer it is party central and during the winter it’s a little more relaxed and laid-back. A couple minute walk from the beach and there’s lots of restaurants around the area.
We took a drive to our old stomping grounds down with the rich and hang out near all the million dollar golf courses and took a walk out on the boardwalk to the beach. Beautiful day was had by all. During our shopping at the discount store Lidl we came across the no name brand of Jager Meister. Naturally, we picked up a bottle and while not as good as the original it had the same qualities and did the same thing to you. 😂
Spent some more time walking around and exploring our local area, including a first for me seeing escalators outside that bring you up to the top of the hill and overlook the whole beach area. Very nice 😊
It’s a beautiful area and lots of really cool buildings, but we decided to go on a road trip to Seville and I put up a separate blog for that adventure. On our return trip, it was noticed that Rory had never been to IKEA before so a stop was needed. There was a walk around with the typical tasty IKEA lunch. 🤠
After our beautiful IKEA visit and regrouping for our typical card games or Kniffel game. We got up and we drove to Sagres which is the most furthest south west corner of Portugal that you can go. It was a beautiful day for nice and warm. Unlike last time. I was there when I froze my ass off. We had a great time. The scenery was breathtaking and we saw things this time we didn’t see last time due to the cold weather.
After a nice drive back through some more towns, we discovered an area that we may visit again on a return to Portugal in a couple of years as it was very nice and very convenient. We’ve met quite a few Canadians here as many of them are thinking, as we are avoiding United States for the cost and the current climate. Portugal is affordable friendly. You can live here pretty much the same way you can Canada and a good bottle of wine. It’s five euros.
We started winding down our adventures in south Portugal and prepared to head back to Lisbon where we have a hotel booked for the last three nights of our month in Portugal. Beautiful early-morning drive up the highway back to Lisbon airport to get rid of our Rent-A-Car and a new hotel called the Eurostar in downtown.
Lisbon is always a beautiful city to visit and every time I’m here I always see something new and this time being no different. We walked around and took one of the trams up at giant Hill, which was similar to what we encountered in San Francisco a few months ago. Walking around and had and wonderful lunch at The Time Out Market which is a giant food court with all kinds of different different types of Portuguese and international foods. My choice of a hotdog with all the fixings went down extremely well with a couple of beers.
We got ourselves a tour done by a lovely young woman from Brazil took us in her electric old style car and drove us all over the place up these giant hills to their old cathedral and old walkout areas we could see the entire city stretched out before us, and she brought us back to our hotel, which saved us a giant hill walk. 🤓
We had one more full day in Lisbon and we had some things that need to be ticked off the sightseeing list. We had to locate the Villeroy Boch set up in Lisbon and was in a giant department store. When we actually did find the set up on the fifth floor it kept Monika and Sue busy for about an hour. 🤓
We then took the cab to the aquarium where we had about three hours of touring that beautiful facility, sharks, and otters all kinds of cool things to see. We are now fish experts. 😋
The last thing on the list for the day was a visit to the Hard Rock Cafe because as we had travelled about, Rory said he had never been to one so we popped in there for a beer and some wings and to check out all the memorabilia. Solid collection of Elton John, Madonna and John Bonhams robe from the last tour Led Zeppelin tour in 1980. We had some pre-dinner drinks in our hotel went out for a very nice pizza at a lovely Italian restaurant, finishing up with a nightcap in our hotel and cheering the wonderful trip that we’ve had together.
As I write this sitting in Lisbon airport preparing to head off to Düsseldorf Germany, I want to thank Rory and Susan as it was a blast to hang around with them for a month and enjoy this European vacation
Thanks to everybody who follows along until the next one cheers 😁
