When we decamped Moose Jaw , we ended up in a lovely campground with nice grass and mud roads just north of Saskatoon. š
The Mini does not enjoy mud roads
One of the reasons we also came to Saskatoon was to meet up with some folks from the CFB Lahr days in Germany, Bob and Nancy.
We had a wonderful dinner at their house on Thursday night and made plans to go up north on Saturday to their trailer š
This drive brought us to a place called Big River, which is about 2 1/2 hours north of Saskatoon. The land changes from extremely flat to what reminds me of the Black Forest in Germany or parts of Ontario with the amount of trees. Once again as per tradition in Saskatchewan, lots of dirt roads but the main highway going up there was absolutely perfect. We stopped and had a really great lunch at a gas station of all places
We had an awesome Saturday and Saturday night, which included a fireworks display when it finally got dark enough around 1130. Bob Nancy and Company are great people and lots of fun and they got the coolest set up with the garage that doubles kitchen and storage area.
Great idea and if I ever decide to have a piece of land, thatās what I will do as itās perfect š
You know we hadnāt been together for 30+ years and it was like 1992 again. It was so much fun and itās great to have such special friendships.
On Sunday the day before Canada Day, we bid our hosts a farewell and headed back to Saskatoon for a well required nap. Of course en route we saw a bunch of interesting things, including a really cool store with all kinds of antiques and interesting outside attractions.
On Canada Day, we got up and we headed to Manitau Lake which is a really special place in the entire world. As per the signs, it is one of three places that are saltwater without being part of the ocean. One is the Czech Republic, The Dead Sea in Israel and Manitou Lake. Lovely lunch spot with a quick beer and we head to the pool. Three temperatures of water and they give you a pool noodle and you float without any effort like being in the ocean. Itās an unbelievable feeling in the middle of Saskatchewan. Naturally, there was a nice Canada Day celebration with street in town closed and a few bands playing Canadian tunes. šØš¦
After we were completely revived by 12 or 14 different minerals, we headed back to our campsite to prepare for the journey to Lloydminster. Watrous is a very beautiful little historic town that goes way back in time with a really cool Dancehall that theyāve put us up as a mural in the mineral swimming pool. š
Typical Canada Day fashion we listened to about two hours of Gordon Lightfoot on CBC radio, including the tribute concert from Massey Hall. I will say driving through the prairies, listening to Gordon Lightfoot is very special.
Cheers until the next one š
No words - so greatš
